Gettysburg students began conducting oral history interviews during January Term classes in the 1970s. Professor Michael Birkner ’72 conducts his own interviews and teaches the technique to students in Historical Method and other courses. This collection is a compilation of oral history interviews conducted by students and faculty. Individuals interviewed are long-term members of the Gettysburg College community, WWII veterans, and those who spent the war on the home front. Both the transcriptions and audio recordings are available for download here in The Cupola, but the original transcriptions and audio of oral history interviews are housed in Special Collections & College Archives; Musselman Library and can be accessed in person in our Reading Room. The digital files can also be accessed through GettDigital.
