Who Can Submit?

Anyone may submit an original article to be considered for publication in Adams County History provided he or she owns the copyright to the work being submitted or is authorized by the copyright owner or owners to submit the article.

In most cases, authors automatically own copyright of their own writing (an exception is “work for hire,” when an employee writes under condition of employment and the employer holds copyright). If authors include materials in their submissions which are copyrighted by others (such as photographs), permission must be obtained from the copyright holder of those materials.

Copyright permission is not needed for quotations from copyrighted works.

General Submission Rules

Please ensure that your submission has not been published previously, nor be forthcoming or under review in another journal or book (print or online). Likewise, please do not send your submission to another journal (print or online) until editorial decisions have been finalized at Adams County History. If you have concerns about the submission terms for Adams County History, please contact the Adams County Historical Society at info@aches-pa.org.

Formatting Requirements

Submissions should be typed, double-spaced, and available in a PC compatible word processing format. In addition to a hardcopy of the submission, contributors should send an electronic copy to the email address listed below. Sources should be fully documented, and style should conform to the latest edition of the Chicago Manual of Style. Contributors should retain copies of the typescript submitted. If return is desired, a self-addressed envelope with postage should be included.

Attribution and Usage Policies

Reproduction, posting, transmission or other distribution or use of the article or any material therein, in any medium as permitted by a personal-use exemption or by written agreement with the Adams County Historical Society, requires credit to the Adams County Historical Society as copyright holder (e.g., Adams County Historical Society © 2016).

General Terms and Conditions of Use

Users of The Cupola: Scholarship at Gettysburg College website and/or software agree not to misuse the service or software in any way. Editors of Adams County History agree to evaluate and edit all submissions in a prompt manner and communicate decisions and desired revisions to the author. Administrators of The Cupola agree to host the content of Adams County History in The Cupola, an open access repository. If any part of the journal’s policies or submission agreement is found to be invalid, the remainder of the policies and submission agreement remain valid and enforced.
