MS-071: Mamie Eisenhower Letters

This collection primarily consists of the letters of Mamie Eisenhower to her friends, Dr. J. Holt McCracken and his wife Vivien of California from 1961-1979. Also included are miscellaneous photographs and newspaper articles. The collection does not contain any information on Mamie prior to 1961 or contain references to her years as First Lady.

This collection consists of the papers of Dillon Anderson, including correspondence, speeches and documents, an interview transcript, newspapers, and other miscellaneous materials. Most focus on the Eisenhower Administration, especially the National Security Council and national security policy during his administration.

MS-098: Eisenhower Letters to Col. & Mrs. Sam White

This collection includes twenty four letters from Dwight D. and Mamie Eisenhower to Col. and Mrs. Sam White during the years, 1955-1974. They primarily contain expressions of thanks for correspondence and gifts from the Whites, as well as news about the Eisenhower family and Dwight D. Eisenhower’s health. With the exception of two handwritten letters from Mamie, all are typed and signed. Most of Mamie’s letters contain additional handwritten notes. One letter was typed and signed on behalf of Mamie Eisenhower by her secretary, Mary Jane McCaffree.

MS-109: Dwight D. Eisenhower Appointment Books 1961-1967

This collection consists of copies of 1311 pages which cover the period from April 1961 to October 1967 during which time he occupied an office on the campus of Gettysburg College. These records detail his appointments, meetings, and telephone calls during his time at Gettysburg College.

The collection contains The Eisenhower Society correspondence, administrative and program materials covering the period 1986-1999, including the Society’s increased activity and involvement in connection with the October, 1990 centennial celebration of Eisenhower’s birth.

MS-157: Donald Brett Collection of Eisenhower Memorabilia

The collection consists of items relevant to all aspects of Dwight D. Eisenhower’s life and career. Most prevalent are Ike’s years as president with numerous artifacts from his 1952 and 1956 presidential campaigns as well as commemorative pieces. These artifacts include a significant collection of campaign buttons, jewelry, and postcards along with other miscellaneous campaign artifacts. There is also a series of photographs mostly relating to his Army career in World War II with others from his two terms as president. Of particular interest are the 1915 and 1945 Howitzers, the United States Military Academy at West Point’s yearbook and the tropical worsted wool summer uniform coat of Brigadier General Robert Ludwig Schulz, Eisenhower’s military aide who continued to work with the retired general and president until Ike’s death in 1969. Also included is a small box of Donald Brett’s personal papers that reflect his own research interests.

MS – 201: Hauser Collection of Eisenhower Political Ephemera

This collection comprises an assortment of President Dwight D. Eisenhower related political materials from the 1960s and 1970s. A few relate directly to the donor’s family (Hauser), but most do not. The collection is predominantly programs from Eisenhower-related events or dedications, a few pamphlets and photographs, and a few political bumper stickers from national elections. There is also the occasional item related to President Ronald Reagan or President Richard Nixon. This collection does not provide a wealth of information about or memorabilia from local politics or political events that Eisenhower attended.

MS-219: Michaela Pyle Mamie Eisenhower Collection

The collection includes stories and interviews collected by Michaela Pyle as part of her unfinished biography of First Lady Mamie Eisenhower, as well as news stories, correspondence, and artifacts related to her interactions with the Eisenhower family in Gettysburg and her work for the biography. Pyle’s interviews with and recollections of Mamie Eisenhower are unique and detail the former First Lady’s time living in Gettysburg, especially after the death of her husband and former President Dwight D. Eisenhower. Much of the collection focuses on the last years of Mamie Eisenhower’s life and the reactions to her death in 1979, but Series 3 includes items relating to a birthday celebration for President Eisenhower in Gettysburg in 1956.

MS-291: Thomas P. Wolf Political Papers

The Tom Wolf Political Papers contains two very different sets of papers. Wolf donated Box One in 2008, and it has several autographed photos addressed to Wolf from Presidents Nixon, Ford, and Bush. Two letters thank Wolf for his dedication to Nixon and his papers. Additionally, there is a signed copy of the book John Chancellor Makes Me Cry by Anne Rivers Siddons.

There are also three boxes of papers relating to Nixon’s legal issues. Wolf donated these after he visited Special Collections in 1995. These papers are vastly different; they are mostly court documents relating to the Watergate Scandal. There are several copies of Congressional Reports relating to Watergate and the location of Nixon’s Presidential papers. These include briefs, transcriptions of court hearings, memorandums, and newspaper clippings. Wolf has highlighted and annotated the documents. This collection is useful for anyone interested in Nixon and the Watergate scandal.
