MS-001: Wilton C. Dinges Collection (H. L. Mencken Collection)

The Wilton C. Dinges Collection is arranged into five Series. I. Biographical Information, II. Antoinette Feleky, III. Correspondence, IV. Manuscripts & Published Material and V. Miscellaneous.

The bulk of the collection is correspondence between Mencken and Antoinette Feleky, wife of Charles Feleky, a close friend of Mencken's. Other items include several typed manuscripts, bibliographic information compiled from newspaper and magazine articles about Mencken, family and friends and other miscellaneous.

The library also holds more than 150 volumes of Menckeniana in addition to two scrapbooks (indexed) of photostatic copies of editorials and articles by Mencken that appeared in the Baltimore Evening Sun, from 1920 - 1938.

MS-007: The Papers of Jerry Spinelli, Class of 1963

The Jerry Spinelli collection traces the writing career of the children’s author from 1961- 2003. The papers consist mainly of various versions of manuscripts including his original handwritten manuscripts, several editions of his books and some promotional material. The researcher will not find materials about life at Gettysburg College or Temple University, or his work at Chilton Publishing; genealogical data, diaries, memorabilia or photographs.

MS-013: Karl Friedrich May Collection

Considered to be the most successful German author of all time with more than 100 million copies of his 70 plus adventure novels translated in over 30 different languages and sold world-wide.

This collection does not include any manuscripts or personal papers of May and is thought to have been separated previously from the Major General Charles Willoughby Collection (MS - 024.) The 2-volume typescript English translation of May's In the Desert was most likely done by Willoughby.

MS-066: The Papers of George Saylor Warthen

This collection is the typed manuscript “A Study of the Rollaid” as well as the handwritten notes by Warthen. The majority of the collection is the manuscript, which consists of four chapters and an appendix. The notes are generally simple lists, mostly of other sources used by Warthen. These notes were for personal use and are for the most part check lists of other works or names.

MS-086: Kathrine Kressmann Taylor (Rood) Papers

The Kathrine Kressmann Taylor (Rood) collection consists of materials relating to her writing career, 1938-1978. These primarily include several versions of typed manuscripts, editions of the journals or magazines in which Taylor (Rood’s) stories appeared, several editions of her books, articles, and book reviews.

MS-110: Fannie Hurst Newsletter Collection

Much of this collection is comprised of drafts and final copies of the Fannie Hurst Newsletter (published from 1991-1995), material submitted for publication, and some promotional material. The collection also includes a substantial amount of correspondence, comprised mostly of letters and a several e-mails.

MS-154: Eileen Spinelli Papers

The collection consists mainly of materials used by Spinelli in the writing and publication processes of her books. Handwritten, typed, and word processed drafts from various stages of the books’ development are included. E-mail and written correspondence between Spinelli, publishers, and editors is also part of the collection. Several of the books were turned down by multiple publishing houses before being sold, and some manuscripts were never accepted at all. The electronic communication between the author and her editors provides insight into the complicated and lengthy process of revising childrens’ books for printing, as well as the task of choosing and collaborating with an illustrator.

MS-165: Papers of Jen Bryant ‘82

The collection is primarily composed of information relating to the publication of Jen Bryant’s picture books and novels. The greatest amount of content is related to books written between 2004 and 2011, but the collection spans from the early days of Bryant’s writing career in 1991 to work on her most recently published book, with additional donations anticipated at the author’s convenience.

Materials relating to Bryant’s professional activities and personal life are also available. These include records of events she attended, awards and honors she received, publishers’ catalogues, and personal correspondence.
