  Each year, Musselman Library asks Gettysburg College faculty, staff, and administrators to help create a suggested summer reading list. We hope to inspire students and the rest of our community to take time in the summer to sit back, relax, and read or watch a memorable film.

  For 2023, 100 employees offer 134 recommendations of favorite books, films, television shows, and podcasts, covering everything from alternate history to zoology.

  This year's booklet marks the 20th anniversary of the YGRT publication with a special puzzle section celebrating two decades of reading recommendations.

  With the 2022 collection, 104 employees offer 175 recommendations of favorite books, films, television shows, and podcasts. This year's selections range from poetry to physics, and transport readers from the Antarctic to Arkansas.

  This year's booklet features a special section of Reading Reflections from Musselman Library staff and a column in remembrance of Sandy Stambaugh.

  Each year, Musselman Library asks Gettysburg College faculty, staff, and administrators to help create a suggested summer reading list. We hope to inspire students and the rest of our community to take time in the summer to sit back, relax, and read or watch a memorable film.

  With the 2020 collection, 110 employees offer 215 recommendations of favorite books, films, and television programs. These selections touch on everything from living in the Alaskan wilderness to the human experience of being wrong.

  The columns featured in this year's booklet are for Reading Without Walls and Fighting for Political Power: Women’s Inclusion from the Nineteenth Amendment to 2020.

  You've Gotta Read This: Summer Reading at Musselman Library (2019)

  Each year, Musselman Library asks Gettysburg College faculty, staff, and administrators to help create a suggested summer reading list. The result is You’ve Gotta Read This!—a booklet filled with fiction, nonfiction and film recommendations that we hope will offer a reading and viewing go-to list for the summer and beyond.

  The 2019 collection has suggestions from 173 employees who offer 258 recommendations of favorite books, films, and television programs that will satisfy a wide range in reading and viewing tastes and genres.

  This year’s booklet includes several special features. Two of our regular columnists return once again: James Udden with his latest picks in film and TV, and Allen Guelzo who shares his recommended books on free speech in the context of the American college campus. Library staff share their favorite books of poetry; multilingual and international faculty recommend favorite works available in translation; Professors Joanne Myers (English) and Kathy Cain (psychology), and Kim Davidson and Jeff Rioux from the Center for Public Service, discuss literature by and about immigrants; and finally Professors Felicia Else (art history) and Kay Etheridge (biology) recommend their picks for the best books on unique and wonderful curiosity cabinets.

  Everyone’s curiosity is promised to be fulfilled in these many and varied recommendations. Happy summer and happy reading!

  With the 2018 collection, 102 employees offer 178 recommendations of favorite books, films, and television programs. These selections touch on everything from politics to romance.

  We include several special features this year. Two of our regular columnists return once again: James Udden with his latest recommendations for the best film and TV, and Allen Guelzo who reveals some of his favorite fiction. There are also columns recommending films about the importance of a free press, and outdoor adventurer Tucker Little offers ideas for reading and podcasts for a summer expedition.

  Each year, Musselman Library asks Gettysburg College faculty, staff, and administrators to help create a suggested summer reading list. Our goal is to inspire students and the rest of our community to take time in the summer to sit back, relax, and read.

  With the 2017 collection, we again bring together recommendations from across our campus—the books, movies, TV shows, and podcasts that have meant something special to us over the past year. 118 faculty, administrators and staff offer up 218 recommendations.

  We include five special features this year. Two of our regular columnists return once again: James Udden and his latest recommendations for the best film and TV, and Allen Guelzo with suggested readings on Civil War history. The #GBCTalks program has curated a series of recommended books that explore issues such as race and racism in America, social justice, and diversity and inclusion. Amy Dailey, Fritz Gaenslen, Caroline Hartzell, Salma Monani, and Jim Udden also present a "Focus on Health" feature in preparation for the next Gettysburg Cycle, and Devin McKinney remembers the 50th anniversary of the release of The Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band with a selection of Beatles-themed films and books.

  Each year, Musselman Library asks Gettysburg College faculty, staff, and administrators to help create a suggested summer reading list. Our goal is to inspire students and the rest of our community to take time in the summer to sit back, relax, and read.

  With the 2016 collection, we again bring together recommendations from across our campus—the books, movies, TV shows, and even musicals that have meant something special to us over the past year. 124 faculty, administrators and staff offer up a record number of 226 recommendations.

  We include five special features this year. Two of our regular columnists are back – James Udden has new recommendations for film and TV, and Allen Guelzo continues his Civil War sesquicentennial series with a new focus on the literature of Reconstruction. Caroline Hartzell contributes a “Focus on Food” feature tied to a new college program beginning this fall. Alexa Schreier recommends some of her favorite pieces of nature writing, and Janelle Wertzberger recaps the spring 2016 #GBCTalks reading series on race and racism as well as sharing additional titles for further reading.
