Abstract

During my first conversation with Paula Gunn Allen, when I asked her to advise my doctoral work in Native American Studies, she told me plainly, "I don't want to fight anymore." She was referring to the non-Native members of my doctoral committee and her desire to not enter another situation where she would have to exert effort arguing, explaining, and legitimizing Indigenous history, experience, and literature to the most likely misguided and misinformed faculty. She said, "I'm tired." [Excerpt]
