    The John C. Tidball collection consists of the diary kept by Tidball during his time at Fort Pickens in Pensacola, Florida, April 1861; a letter to his father, dated November 16, 1862; a report of the actions of his artillery brigade leading up to the fall of Petersburg in April, 1865; an engaging account of his impressions and recollections of Savannah, written for his son in 1905.

    MS-022: Papers of David McConaughy, 1823-1902

    Jaclyn Campbell

    The McConaughy collection is composed primarily of correspondence about the history of the battle of Gettysburg, McConaughy family history, the Soldiers’ Reunion of August 1869, and the establishment of the National Cemetery and all administrative matters required therein.

    The Samuel Simon Schmucker collection consists of his correspondence, publication and papers, and sermons. There is additional correspondence from his family, Schmucker family genealogy, lecture notes by Schmucker, and a certificate of reimbursement for damage to Pennsylvania College during the Battle of Gettysburg.

    Maj. Gen. Charles A. Willoughby attended Gettysburg College, founded the college's ROTC program, served on active duty in the 16th, 35th, 24th, and 65th Regiments of the Infantry and the 1st Division of American Expeditionary Force, as well as the Air Service, 1918 - 1919. During World War II he served as Gen. MacArthur's Chief of Intelligence. This collection consists of personal and military materials.

    MS-025: Joseph G. Patterson, Company G, 90th Regiment Pennsylvania Infantry

    Christine M. Ameduri

    A collection consisting of letters written by Joseph G. Patterson to his mother and father, written between April 1862 and January 3, 1863. Most were written in April, July and October. The letters include a patriotic boy-soldier's first hand account of camp life, his wish to continue his education once he is no longer serving in the army, and information about family who are also serving in the army.

    The Civil War diary depicts a Union staff officer’s day-to-day life throughout the year of 1862. It gives some information on the Merrimac’s naval battles and also the action that took place at South Mountain, Harpers Ferry, and Antietam. Located in the back of the diary are a few addresses of friends/relatives in Troy and his brother Fred’s address in London.

    The Civil War diary of Michael Moyer contains most of the movements of the 173rd Pennsylvania Regiment, from their enlistment on October 21, 1862 to their abrupt orders to move out of Camp Veile on July 10, 1863.

    The collection include letters to friends and family members, mostly to his father, where he recounts interesting anecdotes of his war experiences and his thoughts on Lincoln's election and later assassination. There is a list of friends and soldiers who died in the war, and Daniel's journal which covers the fighting from November 1864 to Lee’s surrender in April 1865.

    This collection is comprised of letters to Olive Tipton and Sara Miller of Biglerville. The letters written to Olive Tipton were exclusively from George Sandoe (1893-1975), a private serving in the Antiaircraft Division. The letters written to Sara Miller were from several men who were friends of Miller.

    Jaclyn Campbell

    During World War II, Richard Schade was stationed in Paterson, New Jersey; Fort Totten, NY; and Camp Stewart, GA throughout the course of these letters. Most of them were written to his wife, Betty, in Camden, NJ. Throughout the course of the letters, Schade rises from the rank of Private to Corporal, and finally to Sergeant.

    This collection consists primarily of correspondence from Coulter to his family and is broken up into sections based on correspondence by regular mail, correspondence by V-Mail, the 1985 Reunion of the 37th Division.

    Christine M. Ameduri

    This collection contains the papers of H. Ralph Burton from the Senate Campaign Expenditures Committee, the House Appropriations Committee, the House Military Affairs Committee, and issues concerning Communism, pornography, and birth control. All records are circa 1920s to early 1950s.

    This collection is a compilation of miscellaneous papers of the family of Henry Louis Baugher, 2nd President of Gettysburg College, consisting of photocopies of a few letters to and from President Baugher, military service records of his son, Nesbit, and memorium books of another son, Henry Louis. It is not an extensive or in-depth collection.

    This collection is divided into two sections. Radical Pamphlets, consists of pamphlets on broad topics such as labor, communism, ecology, poverty, racism and women’s rights. The second series is the Peace Movement and consists of pamphlets, papers, newspaper clippings and correspondence dealing with the Vietnam Conflict and Peace Movement in the United States.

    This collection represents an interesting variety of research materials in the area of theatre arts. The majority of the plays date to the mid-19th century and include details from professional productions of the time. There are playbills from Broadway shows, many from the original productions, as well as souvenir books from famous turn-of-the-century actors. There are also prompt books of shows produced in the 1970's by the Players Repertory Theatre of Harrisburg, PA.

    This collection provides a variety of interesting materials that give insight to both the Woman’s League and the history of Gettysburg College. Most material relates to the General League, but there are additional records and memorabilia from the Sub-Leagues as well. Information is organized, foremost with the records of the General League, and then for the Sub-leagues according to the year of their inception.

    The bulk of the collection consists of letters written by Thomas to his grandfather and grandmother. It includes miscellaneous correspondence including four letters written to Thomas from his grandparents during his service in the 31st Regiment (Emergency). It also includes tintypes, a wallet, and genealogical research.
